Recanati Winery was established in 2000 by Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked; their aim was to create a new winery producing original, quality Israeli wines. Today, Gil Shatsberg is the winemaker; Shatsberg studied oenology at UC Davis and completed stints at Jordan and Trefethen in Sonoma and Napa, respectively. Recanati’s Reserve Series are sourced from single vineyards which reflect the terroir of the area. The 2019 Petite Sirah Reserve is 100% PS. The grapes are handpicked, and undergo a process of destemming, fermentation and pressing before being sent to mature for 12 months in French oak (50% new.) The wine is bottled without any clarification and after coarse filtration, preserving the gamut of flavors. The wine is juicy, full-bodied and rich, with deep purple/bluish colors. Strong flavor components of berries, plum, chocolate, spice and walnuts. In scoring this wine a 90 Points, Mike Desimone from Wine Enthusiast Magazine said “This inky purple wine has a nose of fruits of the wood and green bell pepper, and flavors of dark berries, violet, milk chocolate and eucalyptus.
