2016 rocca di frassinello “le sughere di frassinello”
Wine Spectator “Top 100 Wines” 93 Points: Wine Spectator/3 Bicchieri PLUS Gambero Rossi
Set in the central Maremma area, between Bolgheri and Scansano, where a sort of geological foot can be found, a geographical similarity to this region and Tuscany is readily apparent. This area, so incredibly well suited for cultivating grapes is where the first – and so far only one of its kind – French-Italian joint venture project for the production of wine took shape between Castellare and Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) bringing together the cultivation and vinification of Tuscany’s main vine variety, the famous Sangioveto, with Lafite’s long standing know-how of classical French vines like Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Shiraz.
The assemblage of the wine is 25% Merlot/25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Sangiovese. Deep ruby color, with a broad bouquet of red fruits. It has great substance in the mouth, with soft and round tannins and a long and enveloping finish. Will pair well with full-flavored pasta and rice dishes, and game such as deer, wild boar, hare. Also recommended with birds such as wild duck. Best through 2032.
