Description

91 Point Chilean Pinot Noir!

From famed French winemaker François Lurton comes this estate grown, certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic, from the Lolol Valley (within Colchagua Valley) in Chile.  Araucano is named after the ‘white smoke’ or fog that rolls into the Lolol Valley overnight and burns off in late morning.  The vineyards are perfectly situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains, the Lolol Valley is paradise for vines.  It is a pest and disease-free place where not even phylloxera has found root.

( A word about biodynamic: Biodynamic agriculture was first proposed by the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner in a series of lectures for farmers in 1924. This farming system aims to avoid depleting the soil, thereby enabling sustainable agriculture.)

The Hacienda Araucano Humo Blanco Pinot Noir is pale red, verging towards ruby, with red tinges. The nose offers good aromatic intensity with fresh strawberries and cherries. A hint of cloves and other spices intermingle with the overall aromatic complexity. The wine is supported by a smooth, supple structure and fresh flavors, confirming that the Lolol Valley provides exceptional conditions for this grape.

In scoring this wine a 91 Points, James Suckling said, “A dark-fruited pinot that shows blueberries, lavender and a touch of brambleberries. The nice, taut palate that follows is medium-bodied with a good build of tannins and acidity. Medium on the finish with good weight. Drink now. Screw cap.”
