Our friend, California native Alisa Jacobson, has made her name as Vice President of Winemaking for Joel Gott Vineyards. She recently created a very special, personal project called Turning Tide. Turning Tide wines are sourced from vineyards that are farmed with organic, or environmentally conscious practices and an emphasis on the principles of regenerative agriculture, which empowers growers and vintners to look for every possible opportunity to enhance the ecosystem around the vines.

Turning Tide’s estate-grown Grenache and Mourvèdre grapes are hand-harvested, then swiftly and gently ushered to the winery. The Grenache fruit, along with some of its stems, is gently crushed in open-top fermenters with all of the Mourvèdre—the open-tops allow some alcohol to “blow-off” during fermentation. After yeasts bring the wine to complete dryness, the grapes are then pressed and the juice is transferred to a mix of stainless steel drums and used French oak barrels, which help preserve freshness and fruit flavors, along with some textural complexity from the oak.  The wine is floral, spicy, peppery, filled with aromas of juicy red berries. Soft, spicy, silky and bright on the palate. Only 195 cases produced. 91 Points Wine Enthusiast/Editor’s Choice!
