Bat Shlomo’s Flagship Wine!

Bat Shlomo is a winery with extensive historical roots tied to the preeminent philanthropist of 19th century Palestine, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, and his wife, a kind and generous philanthropist in her own right, Baroness betty Salomon de Rothschild. After a visit to the area in 1887, The two benefactors founded a training school for farm workers, tying the settlers of the land to the world Jewish community. Here, grapes, olives, honey, and vegetables were cultivated, along with goats and sheep. Kosher wine production began in 1892 in the nearby town of Zichron Ya’akov, and an underground tunnel was constructed leading from the vineyard and settlement of Bat Shlomo directly to the winery (Carmel Winery.) In 2010, entrepreneur Elie Wurtman and Napa Valley winemaker Ari Erle founded the new Bat Shlomo Vineyards, revitalizing what had been started more than a century before. Erle believes in sustainable growing, and though not certified organic the winery uses minimal spraying and natural pest control methods. The 2017 is a crisp, white wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes, grown in the winery’s River Vineyard. Fermented for 5 months in egg-shaped Noblot concrete tanks, unoaked. 13% alcohol. Aromas of light citrus, meyer lemon and peach. Lemony and herbal flavors, with mineral undertones. Lightly acidic, well balanced, clean and fresh, with a nice easy finish. Kosher and Kosher for Passover.
